Welcome to Kululu Matchmaking, a unique and thoughtfully curated matchmaking project launched by Anshey Sfard for the Bay Area Jewish community.
Created for individuals seeking meaningful connections and serious relationships leading to marriage, Kululu brings a personal, community-centered approach to modern matchmaking.
Inspired by the joyful “Kululu!” of Sephardic grandmothers at celebrations, our hope is to create connections that lead to weddings—where we can hear the “Kululu!” from the grandmothers of our community.
Kululu Matchmaking is for Jewish singles serious about dating for marriage, centered in the Bay Area while connecting with a broader Jewish singles community beyond the region—expanding the pool of meaningful potential matches.
We create face-to-face connections through thoughtfully curated activities and events, designed to help you meet with purpose and not waste time.
Kululu welcomes all ages and all levels of Jewish observance, including those who are not observant, while following Orthodox Jewish values and Sephardic tradition.

Meet Daniel : The Kululu Engineer
Daniel is passionate about Jewish life and deeply values community. Having recently visited our congregation, he is excited to help bring people together and create meaningful connections. He’d be more than happy to play his part in helping people find their Bashert (Bashert is in Yiddish. The closest term in Sephardic culture to Bashert is Maktub) —one optimized match at a time.
In His Own Words
"Hi, I'm Daniel. I'm a Machine Learning Engineer working at a large tech company in NYC. Before that, I spent a few months living in the Bay area. I'm experienced working with recommender systems and am passionate about my work in the AI field. I believe all people deserve to find a loving partner and that I'm in a position to help others with that. I'm excited to be building the matchmaking algorithm that will allow Avigdor and the Congregation Anshey Sfard to put on a great event, and to help the young professional Jewish Community in San Fransisco make the right connections"
(But Daniel’s engineering ambitions don’t stop there! As part of his very serious research, he’s also working on optimizing The Kululu Sound itself—from our beloved community grandmothers—taking it from Lamino to Lamejor, ensuring the perfect decibel level. Just loud enough to spark excitement, but not loud enough to rupture your eardrums. Because matchmaking is important—but so is protecting your hearing!)

One of the inspirations behind the name Kululu Matchmaking also was…
hilariously iconic scene from Ramzor—the beloved Israeli sitcom that won the International Emmy Award for Best Comedy Series in 2010. Ramzor beat out shows from around the world to become the first Israeli series to win an International Emmy.
In the scene, the Ashkenazi groom-to-be arrives at his girlfriend’s Sephardic grandmother’s place, fully suited up in business mode. His mission? To negotiate the kululus—how much, where, when, and under what terms. It’s absurdly formal, over-the-top, and absolutely hilarious.
That moment stuck with us.
So if you’re dating someone with a Sephardic grandmother… just know the Kululu is non-negotiable. And yes, she will be in charge :)
